K.U (Mr.)

I joined a patent firm straight out of university and worked as a patent engineer at that one firm for more than twenty years. A connection brought me to IPX, where I now work freely, mainly on system and program development inside the firm.

At Shibaura Institute of Technology and its graduate school (master's program), I worked on research aimed at load leveling using superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES), in connection with power supply for magnetically levitated railways (maglev). I ran computer simulations and model experiments, and in the process did programming, designed and built experimental circuits using power semiconductors, and designed and built control circuits using general-purpose ICs.

I presented this research six times at conferences and study meetings of the Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan, and received its Outstanding Paper Presentation Award (page 2). Because I also discussed the research of others in the university and graduate laboratories, I have knowledge of photovoltaic power, wind power, robotics and more. On completing the graduate program, I received the Founder Shiro Arimoto Memorial Award.

After completing the graduate program, I worked as a patent engineer at a mid-sized patent firm. Under the guidance of patent attorneys, I assisted in drafting about 700 specifications and in about 1,200 prosecution responses, and I also built the office LAN and developed software to support filings. When that firm closed, I joined IPX. I assisted patent attorneys as a patent engineer, and I now work on building the firm's information systems, including software and macro development.
