The fees and the points to note when we take on a new matter.

Guide to fees

First consultationOnline (video meeting), 1 hour / JPY 35,000 (excl. tax). If you instruct us on a patent filing, a patent search or similar work within 2 months of the consultation, we do not charge the consultation fee.
Guide to costsObtaining a patent costs about JPY 1,000,000 (excl. tax) as a guide, counting Japan Patent Office fees and attorney fees together.

Points to note

  • We may need some time before replying, because we check for conflicts of interest.
  • If that check shows a conflict of interest, we can introduce a partner patent attorney if you wish. In that case we share the content of your inquiry with that attorney so that it can be checked.
  • Depending on how much work we are already handling, there are cases we cannot take on. We ask for your understanding in advance.
  • Patent attorneys owe a duty of confidentiality under the Patent Attorney Act, so no non-disclosure agreement (NDA) is needed for a first consultation.
