2. Personal Information We Acquire

The Firm acquires the following information by lawful and fair means.

• Contact details such as your name, organization, job title, email address and telephone number
• Information contained in what you consult us about or instruct us on (including inventor and applicant information)
• Information such as resumes and work histories provided when applying for a position
• Information provided when registering for seminars, events and the like

3. Purposes of Use

We use the personal information we acquire within the scope of the following purposes.

• Responding to consultations and instructions on intellectual property (filing, prosecution, searches, expert opinions, disputes, consulting and the like)
• Checking for conflicts of interest and deciding whether to accept a matter

The patent attorneys and staff of the Firm are bound by the duty of confidentiality under the Patent Attorney Act. Information entrusted to us through consultations and instructions is managed strictly under this professional duty, in addition to our obligations under the Act on the Protection of Personal Information.

The Firm does not provide personal information to third parties without your consent, except in the following cases.

• Where required under laws and regulations
• Where provided to the Japan Patent Office and other public agencies, foreign patent offices, foreign associates and the like, to the extent necessary to carry out a matter
• Where it is necessary to protect a person's life, body or property and it is difficult to obtain your consent

6. Outsourcing

Within the scope necessary to achieve the purposes of use, we may outsource the handling of personal information to outside parties such as translators and system providers. We select such parties appropriately and supervise them as necessary.

Our contact form uses an external form service, and what you enter reaches the Firm through that service.

7. Security Measures

To prevent the leakage, loss or damage of personal information and otherwise manage it securely, the Firm takes the necessary and appropriate measures, including the management of access rights, encryption of communications, internal rules and staff training.

The handling of information in work that uses AI follows the policy set out in our AI Guidelines (using only enterprise AI that is opted out of training, keeping work areas and memory separate for each client, and the like).
