In undergraduate and graduate school, belonged to a laboratory specializing in engine research, studying the causes of abnormal combustion (knocking) by spectroscopic methods.
Joined an automaker straight from graduate school and worked on diesel engine development for commercial vehicles and industrial machinery. Managed durability and reliability testing, and worked with related departments to clear a range of problems and bring development to completion.
Qualified as a patent attorney out of a wish to meet a wide range of new technologies and to contribute to business from the intellectual property side, drawing on that development experience.
